It’s been 15 years since the last Lord of the Rings film came out in cinemas, and 4 years since movie-goers had another chance to venture into Middle Earth via the less-loved The Hobbit trilogy. Now we as a fan-base stand on the precipice of quite the historic return to J.R.R. Tolkien’s fantasy masterpiece.
Whilst nothing official has been announced by Amazon themselves, thanks to a number of reports from the likes of The Hollywood Reporter we do have a relatively clear understanding of what is to come with this new series and how we arrived at this point in the first place.

Thanks to an exclusive report by Empire Magazine it has been confirmed that lauded director and film-maker Matthew Vaughn will be turning production company Marv into Marv Studios.
Speaking to Empire, Vaughn confirmed that the studio would focus on rebooting the much-loved Kick-Ass franchise. Saying: “We’re going to reboot Kick-Ass and Hit-Girl…Look what Mark Millar is doing with the comic for clues.”

Despite recent speculation that famed director of the Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit trilogies may be in discussions over working on the Amazon Lord of the Rings prequel series, it appears as thought that’s no longer the case.
Speaking at a media event whilst promoting his next film The Mortal Engines Jackson confirmed that he will not be involved in Amazon’s prequel series, which is supposedly set to focus on a young Aragorn throughout the first season.
This may have something to do with the rumoured DC Universe film he was in the running for, but only time will tell.
No doubt this announcement will upset many fans who clamoured for him to return to the glory days of the Lord of the Rings trilogy, but there will be those who still have a sour taste after The Hobbit.
After much speculation it appears as though the subject base for Season 1 of Amazon’s Lord of the Rings prequel series has been confirmed.
According to an exclusive report by TheOneRing.net Amazon’s biggest project will, for season 1 at least, focus on a young version of the Northern Ranger turned King of Gondor, Aragorn.
